Respect for traditional buildings & green renovation

This old stone farmhouse was already on the Napoleonic cadastral map(about 1800) and had not been inhabited since 1956.

Big work

Carried out a programme of extensive restoration retainig matching existing building materials and traditionnal design features whenever possible.

• All the roofs were redone in tile.

• We kept the original structure and special rooftop characteristic of the village. Frames and original boards were sanded.

• The original openings were retained. We had some nice surprises during the restoration work. By removing the old plaster we found windows, doors, niches that had been hidden.

Thermal and sound insulation

Special care has been taken over the heat and sound insulation:

• Hemp shuttered 17cm thick on interior walls

• 20cm cork boards laid on the attic under the roof.

• lime concrete slabs with sub-layer of cork on the floors in the kitchen and living room.

• oak windows with double glazing reinforced with argon.

The materials

• coatings in lime,-hemp or plaster

• Paintings and wood treatments with non-toxic components: clay paintings, lime washes, ochers, natural stains ...

• On the ground floor, terracotta from Prony

• Upstairs untreated oak parquet.
